Wedding anniversary ideasYour wedding anniversary is fast approaching, and this year you want to avoid the same-old, boring, predictable routine: dinner, dessert, movie, done.

Sure, there’s nothing like predictability and doing something with which you’re both familiar and comfortable for an anniversary celebration, but it also doesn’t hurt to try something new and different and “spice up” your anniversary this year, whether you’re celebrating your second, sixth, 10th, 18th, 25th, 39th, or 50th year of marriage together.

If you’re looking for some ideas to help you plan a better wedding anniversary this year, then read on for some fun, unique, and creative suggestions.

Put a fun twist on “dinner”
Instead of simply going out to a restaurant for dinner to celebrate your anniversary, try one of these other ideas instead:

Have dinner in.
Candles, soft music in the background, wine, and fresh flowers can perfectly set the mood for a romantic dinner at home. Surprise your spouse by cooking his/her favorite meal.

Have a picnic out.
Pack some of your spouse’s favorite foods—and be sure to include some romantic and aphrodisiac treats—and head out to a romantic, secluded location out in nature.

Get away!

Every couple needs to get away from the every day in order to de-stress, relax, reconnect, and rekindle their flame, so what better time than your anniversary? You don’t even have to travel far or for very long. Just get away, together, and really enjoy each other’s company.

Have a party
If the two of you are “people people,” consider throwing a huge anniversary bash, inviting all your friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors to celebrate with you. Anniversary parties are more common for the “big” milestones, like 10 years, 20 years, 25 years, 40 years, and 50 years, but there’s no hard and fast rule; you can throw a party for any year.

If you’re more introverted, considering hosting a smaller, quieter affair with just your family and a few of your close friends.

Make it last
Who says your anniversary is a one day-only affair? Sure, the day you got married is just one date (in North American culture, that is), but why not make the celebration last longer…a weekend, or even a week or longer? You could, for example, plan a romantic night out (or in) for one evening, then take a trip together for a few days, and then finish off with an anniversary party.

Stroll down memory lane
A fun way to commemorate the number of years you’ve spent and enjoyed together as a married couple is to take a trip down memory lane. You can do this in a number of different ways. You could, for example, recreate, as best as possible, your very first date, down to the littlest detail. You could also recreate the moment of the proposal.

Finally, if your loved one had a happy/normal childhood, consider taking him/her to where he/she grew up, allowing him/her to relive some warm memories and share them with you.

Renew your commitment
What better way to celebrate your love for and commitment to each other than by renewing your vows? While you could go all out and have another “wedding” complete with a ceremony, new rings, cake, guests, and a party, you could also just take off on a trip - just the two of you, or with a few close friends or family members - to renew your vows on the beach in some tropical location.

If money is an issue, you can stay home and simply rewrite your vows and express them to each other by candlelight.
