A bridal shower is an important traditional wedding party thrown to honor and “shower” the bride with gifts for her new home. It usually involves all the women closest to the bride and takes place a few weeks or months before the wedding.
There are lots of ways to throw a “nice” shower but if you really want to surprise the bride throw her the “best” bridal shower ever. Here’s how.
Get the girls together
The maid of honor or the mother of the bride typically host the bridal shower. However anyone who wants to can throw a shower for the bride. Get the mother of the bride, groom’s mother, bridesmaid and maid of honor together. Figure out the basics; the budget, date and responsibilities.
Pick a fun theme
Select a theme. Themed parties are always much more fun because they center around something in particular and everything (the décor, food and even guests’ attire) coordinates with it. When thinking about a theme try to focus on things the bride likes best; their favorite color, hobby, movie and so on. But, also be mindful of who will be invited. If the bride is a crazy girl who loves Vegas and you want to throw a “naughty party” that’s great but grandma and conservative aunt sue might feel a little out of place. Find something that everyone will enjoy and be included in.
Create a killer menu
Food is the life of most parties. Instead of doing the usual bridal shower goodies like cookies and packaged sandwiches make a gourmet menu. Set it up buffet style or do a sit down tea party with gourmet finger sandwiches and more. Offer several different items to sample so that there is something everyone is sure to love. And don’t forget about the drinks. Have a lovely lemonade, tea or other refreshment and some alcohol. Now when I say alcohol I mean classy alcohol. Planter’s punch, peach margaritas and spiked lemonade are great choices because they’re elegant and lady like while still packing some punch and making the girls giggle.
Pick fun games and activities, not silly ones
Every bridal shower has some games and activities for the bride and guests to play. Avoid the silly games of toilet paper wedding dress and guess what’s in the brown paper bag. Choose games that are unique, exciting and simple. Make sure you explain the rules clearly to everyone. Also have prizes for the winners of each game to up the ante.
Make everyone feel welcome
Whether or not you know everyone be kind and respectful to them. Make them feel as welcome as possible. Introduce yourself to anyone you don’t know and offer them food, drinks and help with their gifts, jackets and so on. Be positive no matter what is going on. Choose someone who is personable and outgoing to lead the games and activities. Assign a greeter to greet guests as they enter and answer questions. Treat everyone like your own special family.
If everyone has a good time and the bride is happy you have yourself a successful bridal shower.
