Best Months for Wedding Plans If you’ve decided to offer, or accepted, a marriage proposal, the hard part is over, right? For many couples, the decision to get married is the easy part – planning the wedding is where the hard job begins. Your options in wedding planning are many, the choices wide and far reaching. From dresses to colors, cakes to invitations, the choices you make will be remembered forever. However, the most important choice in planning a wedding is the date – this is the celebratory date you will have for the entirety of your marriage, so choosing a date is important. Let’s look at the top three months you should plan your wedding in and why.

Wedding Month Choice #3 – December/January

We’ve lumped December and January together because they are typically the same in terms of weather and wedding cost. Getting married in the depths of winter can bring some amazing savings to your overall wedding cost. Many people choose to marry in the heart (and heat) of summer, so they can have an outdoor venue.

By choosing to stay indoors in the cold of winter, you can easily find venues that offer many choices for seating and catering. The only downfall to December is that it’s largely “Christmas party season”, so some of your top choice venues may be booked for Christmas parties. In January, all the partying is complete and venues are largely open for bookings.

Wedding Month Choice #2 – September

A fall wedding can be quite spectacular, especially if you love the warmer tones and colors. Fall can offer you a plethora of other choices made easy in terms of colors (choosing warm tones that match the season, such as pumpkin orange, warm hues of red, mellow yellows or soft beiges and browns) as well as themes.

With the color changes beginning in September, as well as the weather changes, September is a popular choice because the weather is still warm enough to not have snow, but cool enough that you won’t have to worry about overheating your guests. You can still have an outdoor wedding, although you’ll want to plan for slightly cooler weather – meaning brides won’t want to be standing in a strapless gown with nothing on their shoulders.

Wedding Month Choice #1 – Summer Months of June, July and August

A summer wedding is usually the most popular choice because of the variety of venues available – there are many outdoor venues that are specially prepared to host weddings as well as a plethora of indoor venues that are booking well in advance for wedding dates.

The downfall of a summer wedding is planning – you need to start well in advance in booking venues because some popular wedding venues are booked years in advance for these popular months.

Another reason that summer weddings are incredibly popular is for photograph taking. Many new couples opt for wedding photos to be taken outdoors when everything is plush and green and flowers are in full bloom. Most often, summer wedding photos are the nicest to look at and the top choices for new couples – something about being surrounded by nature in all its glory while dressed in your absolute finest makes for fantastic photos.

However, if photography is the only reason you are choosing a summer month, consider this: Have your wedding in the fall, spring or winter, but take your wedding photos in the summer. You can rent your tuxes, bridesmaid and bridal dresses, or purchase them slightly in advance, and have your pictures taken before the wedding day or after it, in the summer. Although, you can opt to have indoor pictures taken or work with the scenery of the month and season you’ve chosen.

The Choice Is Yours

Regardless of the most popular months to marry in, the choice of your wedding date truly lies with you and your future spouse. Perhaps there’s a special date you want to get married on, such as the date you first met or the date you were engaged on, one year later or more. Other couples look at the date numbers to make their choices – June 7, 2008 was popular because the date was 06-07-08, likewise other dates with number sequences.

If you and your future spouse both have favorite numbers, such as 8 and 10, you could marry on August 10 or October 8 – the choices are endless, but you and your future spouse should choose a date that you both agree on and find appropriate for you wedding celebrations.
