spasA spa can be a welcome break from the busy pace of everyday life. Taking the time to get a facial, massage, or aromatherapy treatment at a day spa can leave you feeling cared for, rested, and healthy. But how do you choose the best day spa for you? There are so many spas out there, and all of them are different. We’ve compiled a useful list of tips and tricks for finding the best spas, at any price point.

If you are interested in getting services at a spa, you should consider the cleanliness, training of staff, and the ambiance of a facility before you book a treatment. By doing a little research, you can be assured of a relaxing, beneficial day of beauty.

Here are our tips and tricks for finding better spas:

  • Word Of Mouth – Words spreads rapidly, when a truly great spa with great service is in operation. Happy customers extol the virtues of the spa on Internet message boards, in testimonials, and through conversation. Ask your friends and family where they’ve gone to get treatments, and how their experience was. Or check health and beauty websites, and search message boards for customer reviews. A spa’s website will always make them sound like the best spa around: dig a little deeper to gain perspective, before you book. You’ll be glad you did!
  • Price – There are many levels of service and many different price points, in the world of spa treatments. Make sure you factor in tips and taxes before showing up for your appointment. If you want luxury, you’ll have to pay for high-end décor and products. If you are willing to forego a stunning environment in favor of good treatments in a more bare-bones spa, you’ll save money and still leave happy. Just know what you want, and compare price lists beforehand. You will avoid a nasty bout of “sticker shock” when presented with your final bill.
  • Hygiene – It’s very important that any spa you visit makes cleanliness and hygiene a priority. You will be safer and healthier in a spotless environment. Don’t hesitate to ask for a full tour of the facility before you book. Any reputable spa will be happy to show off their massage rooms and other areas to potential clients. Be wary of any place that seems dirty or disorganized. Germs can be a problem in any place where personal services like waxing, facials, and pedicures take place. A good spa will always smell fresh, and staff will be immaculately groomed as well.
  • Medical History – A competent spa technician will always ask you for a brief medical history. Some procedures can be harmful to those with pre-existing medical conditions. Be sure you are open and honest with your technician about any problems you might have.
  • Gender Issues – If you prefer to attend an all-female spa, make sure that the facility you are interested in does not have male technicians and clients. In this day and age, men enjoy getting spa treatments, and there are also all-male spas, although they are less common. Pinpoint what you what, and ask in advance about getting a male or female technician, if that is important to you.
With these tips, you can enjoy your spa day without any unpleasantness. By doing a little preparation, you can have a relaxing experience that leaves you refreshed and revitalized.
