Summer is all about hot days and cool drinks...there are some amazing cocktails and beers out there if you know what to look for.
If you learn to master some easy cocktail recipes, you can entertain your friends with expertly mixed drinks that heighten their pleasure. Some of our selected cocktails are trendy, and some are classic and never go out of style. Our beers are chosen for their smooth finish and their uniqueness. Be the host or hostess with the mostest, as you mix up the latest drinks with professional skill. Here are our summer picks for the best cocktails and beer:
Mojitos: The mojito, a Cuban classic that is minty, sweet and delicious, is extremely popular right now. Mojitos have a rum base: you can buy premixed mojitos in bottles, but they’ll never retain the freshness and flavor of the freshly prepared cocktail.
Classic Mojito Recipe:
1-½ oz. white rum such as Bacardi
1 tsp. Sugar
four or five mint leaves
2 ounces lime juice – 2 or 3 wedges
club soda
This is an easy and refreshing drink that also looks beautiful. It’s simple to make: here are our instructions:
In the bottom of a tall highball glass, mix the mint leaves and lime juice. Pour the sugar over them, and, with the back of a spoon, gently mush the mint leaves to release their essential oils: you don’t want to tear them to bits or you’ll have leaves floating in the finished drink. When you are done, pour the rum over the mint, lime and sugar combination, and then fill the glass with club soda. Stir the drink and enjoy a classic cocktail from Cuba.
Creative Martinis: Martinis have changed a lot since the James Bond and his “shaken, not stirred” variety! You can add almost anything to vodka these days, and put it into a martini glass. Take advantage of these new, modern variations on the classic martini to wow your guests. You can buy large plastic martini glasses for outdoor use at dollar stores and department stores: they look great and are easy to take care of. If you are having a fancier dinner, a classic glass will work better. Here is our summer pick for the best martini recipe:
Appletini: Colorful and tart, the Appletini is a hit with women: it’s also amazingly simple to prepare. Simply mix 2 ounces of vodka, 2 ounces of apple liqueur, and apple juice to top into a large martini glass. Stir and add some crushed ice and a green apple slice to decorate the cocktail.
Cool Off With The Best Summer Beers:
If you are having a party, consider your guests and their preferences when choosing the right brews. Are you part of a sophisticated, urban crowd? If so, classic European beers like Heineken and Amstel will please your guests, or perhaps a local micro-brew. Micro-brews are interesting because they use unique flavors such as honey to create an individual taste.
If your guests are suburban and traditional, consider classic summer drinks like Budweiser and Miller Lite for the ladies. Make sure it’s ice-cold, and set it out in a large metal bucket with ice for a tempting display.
