Every spring, the sun starts shining, the days grow warmer, and women begin thinking about wearing brighter colors and lighter fabrics. You can plan for a stylish spring by getting a first glimpse of the newest trends – straight from the runway.

What’s hot for spring this year?

We’ve compiled a list of the newest trends for the upcoming season. Here is our list of the hottest top ten trends for women’s fashion this spring:

10. Harem Pants

Harem Pants
These new pants may sound unwearable, but they are everywhere on Spring runways! Harem pants are snug in the waist, and full through the legs. At the ankle, they taper. They can be worn with a fitted jacket, and they work well with a cutting-edge pair of heels that add some edge. Be sure to get a second opinion before you enter this unfamiliar territory, because harem pants are hard to pull off. If you are fearless and bold with your style, this new, softer silhouette may be just what you are looking for this spring.

9. Rompers

Rompers
A romper suit is a sort of jumpsuit with shorts. At BCBG’s spring show, romper suits in teal were a highlight. A romper suit can be very flattering if you enjoy showing off your legs, and it has a clean-cut, classic look with a vintage feel. The romper suits featured on the runway this year are designed with deep cowl necks, and soft, draped fabrics. They are worn with strappy sandals for a glam effect.

8.) Bermuda Shorts

Bermuda Shorts
Bermuda shorts were shown at the spring Lacoste runway show, and they give a preppy, tailored look to spring ensembles. They can be amped up with the addition of a jacket in a graphic print. At Lacoste, Bermudas took on a Mod-inspired look with pure black and white tones, and they were accessorized with wide belts and spectator pumps.

7.) Flowing Shift Dresses

Flowing Shift Dresses
Shift dresses are generally cut close to the body, so that they hug your curves without being too tight. But the latest shift dresses for women, as displayed at Diane Von Furstenburg’s runway show, are looser, with a beachy feel. Made of soft, silky fabrics, these loose shifts are comfortable and colorful. You should look for shifts that feature wild, multicolor prints that are Sixties-inspired.

6.) Lantern Skirts

Lantern Skirt
At Tracy Reese, the lantern skirt, which has a lot of volume around the hips and thighs, then tapers above the knee, was a feature of the Spring runway show. The lantern skirt features an important new silhouette, and is amped up with a subtle, artsy print in a soft fabric. To show your new skirt to best advantage, you should opt for a fitted top with a low neckline and short sleeves, to balance your shape. Citrus shades often appear in Spring shows, and the lantern skirts at Tracy Reese used hot shades like nectarine to make them fresh and seasonal.

5.) Mixed Patterns
– This bold combination of two distinct patterns is a hot trend for Spring. By mixing bold striped tops and dotted skirts, Michael Kors took fashion in a daring direction this season. If you enjoy wearing eclectic outfits, and have the courage to stand out, mixing patterns could be a favored trend for you this spring.

4.) Metallics

Metallic Handbag
Metallics seem to emerge with some predictability each spring and summer, but they usually appear in shoes and handbags, rather than dresses. This year, Vera Wang used metallics to great effect, creating loose shift dresses with beading at the neckline. Her silver shift dress is voluminous, and worn with a simple black cardigan, fitted very close to the body.

3.) Yellow Accessories

Yellow Accessories
Marc Jacobs is always on the cutting-edge of fashion, and his Spring runway accessories showed bright, vibrant patterns in taxi-cab yellow. Usually shown with a black ensemble, these handbags featured diamond patterning and rope straps.

2.) Layering

Marc Jacobs opted for a layered look for his Spring models, who wore filmy, long-sleeved blouses, with fitted, short-sleeved knits on top. His models had a feminine, proper look, since they were covered up and ladylike. The non-traditional way he layered their separates gave them some edge.

1.) Ruffles

Ruffles – Betsey Johnson
Betsey Johnson is known for her madcap, whimsical outlook on fashion, and this Spring, she featured bright sundresses with tiers of ruffles, and corset tops. This type of fashion can be very flattering to an hourglass shape, but it an over-the-top look that works best for the bold and brave. Betsey Johnson showed ruffled dresses in scarlet and black, using thin horizontal stripes to add dimension.
