You may not realize it until you first get your own place and suddenly need a spatula or window cleaning solution or trash bags or a trash can for that matter. But household items can add up, and quickly.
Really quickly. While a trashcan and bags may not seem all that expensive by just looking at the price tag what you have to remember is that trash cans are just one of hundreds of items you need to keep your home fully functional. By thinking ahead and finding the best price on all these items you will be saving yourself a ton of money that you can put towards nicer things like some more furniture and utility bills.
Dollar Tree
This store is similar to the 99 cent stores but far better in quality and selection. There are some absolutely great items here and all for only a buck each. You can find nearly all your kitchen utensils like large plastic spoons, turners, whisks, spatulas and can openers. Plus there are all the little items you need around the house such as tape, batteries, flashlights, plastic organizers, Tupperware, cups, hangers and more. The list goes on and on. Sure you could go to Target or Walmart and get all these things but why spend more? These are great quality items that will last you a long time and for only a buck, who cares if something ever did break.
Thrift stores
A lot of people are wary of thrift stores but there are some great bargains to be found if you really search for them. One great find is books. If you love books go to the thrift store you can get most any book for a quarter to a buck each. Need some end tables, a coffee table, hat stand? Scour all your local thrift stores and you’re bound to find one that just needs a light dusting or perhaps a fresh coat of paint. You can even find great sets of plates, cups and other dishware that is in perfect condition. Just take it home and give it a good scrubbing to clean it up and you’re set.
Ebay and Overstock
The online retailers that have it all. Ebay is wonderful for finding hard t find items and collectables to complete that collection of fine china you have for example. Overstock has some great bargains on tons of household items. Need a new set of silverware or dining plates? See what’s on clearance at overstock and save yourself tons of cash. Plus shipping is just $2.95 no matter how much you buy. That even applies to furniture!
Garage Sales
Get up early on Saturday and you can score a new coffeemaker, night stand or set of martini glasses still in the box. You never know what you’ll find. Sure some garage sales are nothing but old junk that really should just be thrown in the garbage can but a lot of others are filled with tons of items that you would love. Remember what may be one person’s junk is another person’s treasure.
