Easy steps for getting your skin to look great
If you’re like most women, you’d have to admit your skin-care regime has either fallen by the wayside or never really been stellar in the first place.
We could all stand to take better care of our skin, and it doesn’t have to be complicated, either. Whether you want to look younger, hide certain blemishes, or improve the overall health of your skin, you can achieve your goal of better-looking skin by simply following a few basic tips.
Protect your skin from the sun.
As much as you may love to tan or think a little sunburn over the bridge of your nose is “cute,” the sun’s UV rays are highly damaging to your skin, causing premature aging, skin spots and pigmentation changes, wrinkling, and even skin cancer. Always use sunscreen when you will be exposed to sunlight. Wear hats and sunglasses in the sun. In fact, many dermatologists maintain that sunscreen is your best protection against aging and damaged skin and the most important part of your daily skin-care routine.
Keep your face clean.
Wash your face twice a day—at night (to remove makeup, dead skin cells, and dirt) and in morning (to wake up and reinvigorate the skin and remove anything that accumulated overnight). Many women are guilty of only washing it only once daily, or not at all. Use a mild face wash rather than harsh soaps.
Hydrate your skin.
A well-hydrated body equals well-hydrated skin, which is essential to its health and vitality and in achieving (and maintaining) a youthful glow. Drink plenty of water every day.
Take care of your body.
Great skin is about more than washing it, applying moisturizer, and using a good foundation. You need to care of your body, too! This means ensuring you get enough rest and eat a healthy, balanced diet, both of which can dramatically improve the vitality of your skin, as well as avoiding things like stress (emotional, mental, and environmental) and smoking, both of which can prematurely age the skin.
Use products appropriately and sparingly.
Whether it’s your moisturizer, exfoliator, or foundation, you need to ensure you use the right kind and that you exercise moderation. First, find the skin-care products and makeup that are right for you, based on your skin type and particular needs, and follow the directions. Second, don’t overapply—more is usually not better. Many women tend to overapply moisturizer as if their skin is dying without that excessive amount.
Go natural.
This tip is really up to you whether you want to go this route, but many women swear by natural skin-care products and even home remedies as alternatives to traditional products.
Keep it simple.
You don’t need a complicated, time-consuming, and expensive skin-care regime in order to have healthy, better-looking skin. If you follow the above simple tips and make sure you use just a few good products that don’t cost an arm and a leg, you’ll be on your way to better skin in no time.
