(Indian Yogurt Drink)
Yogurt Lassi is one of the popular drinks in India: this yogurt-based drink can be flavored to be either sweet, or salty.
The cool, refreshing taste of Lassi comes from the addition of ice cubes to yogurt, sugar, spices, and other ingredients.
The Punjab area of India is the best place to find the most traditional yogurt Lassi: the women there still create the drink from raw milk every day, then flavor it according to taste, usually with cumin. However, you don’t need to visit India to enjoy the wonders of this traditional beverage: you can create it at home, since it’s so easy to make!
Yogurt Lassi has become more popular in North America, and there are countless variations on the classic cumin Lassi of Punjab. Famous chefs such as Jamie Oliver have made Lassi on their programs (Oliver’s was flavored with mango and cardamom), and gourmets love the icy, smooth drink. Chef Anthony Bourdain has also featured Lassi on his TV program, No Reservations.
