California is known for its magnificent wineries but most people think of Central California with its rolling green valleys and plush landscape. Few people ever think of Southern California.
But the southern end of the state has some of the best wineries around and the locals love the fact it’s kept more private than other tourist filled wineries further north. If you’re planning a wine tasting trip in Southern California make sure you stop by these five splendid estates. It will be an experience you will never forget. Keep your pallet clean and your nose open to take in the great scents and tastes of the south.
Fallbrook Winery
2554 Via Rancheros, Fallbrook, CA 92008
This particular winery actually specializes in champagne. However they also have a wide range of red and white wines to taste. This is also such a gorgeous area you will just be stunned at the breathtaking views, greenery and fresh air. This is the perfect place for a romantic evening out or a tasting for a big event such as a wedding.

Ferrara Winery
1120 W. 15th St., Escondido, CA 92025
A classic choice for the most discerning of wine tasters. This winery has the best of the best and has been named a California Historical Point of Interest. Take in the scenery, learn the history and try the wonderful wines all in a single afternoon.
Churon Winery
33233 Rancho California Rd., Temecula, CA 92591
A charming French style winery offering a wide selection of wines to try as well as overnight accommodations. Their bed and breakfast makes for the perfect little weekend getaway. Plus since Temecula is world renowned for its numerous wineries, you can easily go tasting at other local wineries to fill your day. Feel free to make it a habit and go back routinely, lots of locals do because it’s such a fun, warm and inviting place.
Longshadow Ranch
39847 Calle Contento, Temecula, CA 92591
This winery takes a less traditional approach to their tasting. They are a “ranch” and want their guests to have a pleasant but casual experience. The ranch offers horse drawn carriage rides through the vineyards and continues through the hills of Temecula. When you return from your ride you have to try the famous Boot Shooter, it’s a chocolate shaped like a cowboy boot and filled with Ponderosa Port. Talk about delicious! The locals swear by this one.
Rosenthal - The Malibu Estate
26023 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu, CA 90265
The location is absolutely stunning as you are four miles from the coast but 1400 feet up and have an incredible view of the landscape while sipping Cabernet, Chardonnay and Merlot. One of the most uppercrust elite wineries you will ever find. You may have to really take your attire into consideration when visiting this one, sometimes they look at you questionably, but have no fear, they’ll just think you’re “new” money.
