top adventure moviesThe past fifty years of Hollywood have produced some of the largest blockbuster hits of all time. The truth told: movie goers have far more options today than they have ever had before. And driving in to a theatre is as outdated as a slicker hair cut. Of course, while one could never accurately list the top adventure movies of all time, there are some that truly shine like a beacon of action-packed thrill that simply scream: “I am a really freaking good movie!”

So without further tussles, here is the top eight that made the final cut.

Indiana JonesIndian Jones (all four): Okay, this one takes the cake over the others for a few reasons. One: Harrison Ford is just phenomenal and portrays the ideological adventure protagonist. Another reason is that nearly anybody you could ever ask has a fond memory of the Indie series. Even if the newest one kind of blew chunks, nothing can touch the first three, ever.

Star Wars Star Wars (all six): While the three newer films in this elaborate series bilk the grander and excellence of the first three; these films are still all time bests. When people think science fiction, there are two things that pop into most peoples’ heads: Star Wars and Star Trek. Thankfully there are no conventions slated for this year.

Spiderman Spiderman (all three): Ah yes, the clumsily and often dull-witted, would-be photographer that is Peter Parker, perfectly displayed by Toby McGwire. Sure it’s cheesy, predictable and yes somehow amazing at the same time. Especially for those of us who grew up loving the comic book series: Spidey delivers.

Superman Returns Superman (newest one): If you did not like the Man of Steel movies as a kid, shame on you. The silly and obvious back drop of Superman flying was great. And the strongest savior of the planet is back and rocking. While the plot hinges on obvious hooks and turns, it is hard to say anything bad about America’s favorite comic book character.

Tomb Raider Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Three points here on why this movie rocked…okay six. The first two: action-packed, true-to-the-video-game-it-was-based-upon brilliance, amazing graphics and CG, not to mention seamless editing. The final four reasons: Angelina Jolie, Angelina Jolie, Angelina Jolie and Angelina Jolie.

Batman Begins Batman Begins: Christian Bale puts down his American Psycho gloves and dons the dark knight’s cape. This is one of the most brilliant action/comic book/adventure movies of all time. And please people, with as many Batman actors as we have seen, there is no question that Bale is the best.

Batman Dark KnightBatman: Dark Knight: The biggest movie of all time was not just big because Heath Ledger passed away during the filming. Rather, this Hollywood cake topper is action intense and really brings out the gothic flare that was intended with this series. And who can argue that Christian Bale is not the best freaking villain catcher of all time!

Romancing the Stone: Cheesy yes. Silly, of course. Romantically drab, sure. But no one can argue that this 80s flick did not win over a combination of witty script writing, Indiana Jones flare and a style that truly sets it apart as one of the better action/adventure/romantic comedies of this past century.
